Renewal Requirements

This complete package includes all 8 hours of annual continuing education required of individuals maintaining a state-issued mortgage loan originator (MLO) license in Minnesota.

1 Hour MN SAFE: 2025 Minnesota Law Review

A mortgage loan originator (MLO) licensed in Minnesota is required to complete eight total hours of continuing education annually. This includes:

  • Three hours on federal mortgage-related laws
  • Two hours on ethics, fraud, and consumer protection
  • Two hours on traditional and non-traditional mortgage products
  • One hour of Minnesota-specific education

This online self-study course satisfies the one hour of required state-specific education. Within the course, students will spend time reviewing state regulations and acts impacting mortgage loan origination activities; perusing scenarios, examples, or case studies; and completing exercises to demonstrate understanding of the content.

7 Hour SAFE Core: 2025 Mortgage Loan Originator Course

This online self-study course satisfies the seven hours of 2025 annual continuing education required of individuals maintaining a state-issued mortgage loan originator (MLO) license. Within this course, students will spend time reviewing required topics, including:

  • Three hours on federal mortgage-related laws
  • Two hours on ethics, fraud, and consumer protection
  • Two hours on lending standards related to nontraditional mortgage products

State Requirements For Minnesota

Minnesota Requirement Detail for Mortgage Continuing Education

Hours Required by the State: 8 hours 

  • 3 hours of federal law

  • 2 hours of ethics

  • 2 hours of non-traditional mortgage lending

  • 1 hour of state-specific education

An MLO who has completed their pre-licensure education (PE) course requirements in the same year in which the license was approved is not required to complete CE within the same year.

Successive Years Rule:

A licensee may not take the same CE course two years in a row.

Seat Time:

Seat time will be enforced and our online course delivery system manages this requirement.
